BroadChannelNY.com Forums Petition
This is a Petition Against The MTA's decision to ELIMINATE the Rockaway/Broad Channel Resident Rebate Program for the Cross Bay Veterans' Memorial Bridge.

BroadChannelNY.com is currently running a petition to collect virtual signatures in opposition of the MTA's decision to eliminate the Resident Rebate Program from the Cross Bay Veterans' Memorial Bridge.

This bridge connects a single zip code, a Queens neighborhood to a Queens neighborhood. Residents of the island of Broad Channel and the Rockaway Peninsula rely on this bridge for every aspect of their daily lifestyles and have fought "tooth and nail" to have this rebate program installed. The MTA is now planning to revoke the rebate to help fill an alleged budget gap. Elimination of this program will severely affect the lifestyles of our residents and the economic welfare of our local businesses.

Your signature is needed below and is sincerely appreciated by the residents of Broad Channel and the Rockaway Peninsula.

Forward this link on to everyone in the Rockaway/Broad Channel area:

My family use this bridge at least 2 -3 times a day each. There
is no way we should have to pay for this toll going from Queens to Queens, I feel we shouldn't have to pay the marin pkwy bridge either.

Senator Schumer correctly singled out The Cross Bay Bridge as the only same- borough crossing charging its residents a toll. The subsequent rebate to residents was equitable, reasonable and fair. Keep the rebate it is only fair, just as the Gil Hodges memorial bridge should have the same rebate.

Senator Schumer correctly singled out The Cross Bay Bridge as the only same- borough crossing charging its residents a toll. The subsequent rebate to residents was equitable, reasonable and fair. To undo the rebate, would once more be inequitable unreasonable and unfair.

My father was born in Rockaway Park in 1908. My family has lived here for over one hundred years. We cannot let our community be separated by a toll bridge!

My family and I are residents in the Rockaways for the past 35 years. My children were raised here and went to school in the area. The Crossbay bridge is a new part of most of rockaway's lives but if any of us residents dont have the bridges to the main land how do we get to Brooklyn, the other side of Queens oh!!!! and dont forget Mannnnnhatttan. The residents of Broad Channel and the Rockaways are the last to get any help. We are considered the dumping ground for many illllls. Especially, houses that cant be sold so they rent them to mostly undesirables. If I wanted to get away from some of these ills and go to the North Channel bridge rest stop to see the birds or to go to the Gateway Reserve I would have to take the bridge. So why are you charging us to get from point A to point B. This is highway robbery. Most of the bridges money to pay off the cost of buiding this bridge comes from the residents who live and work in the area. GIVE US A BREAK!!!! WILL YA. My vote is to keep the rebate. OH ALSO I VOTE TO LOWER THE MARINE PARK BRIDGE REBATE FOR ALL ROCKAWAY RESIDENTS. HAVE A MERRY CHRISTMAS

It took how long for Broad Channel and Rockaway Residents to finally get the rebate and now MTA wants to take it back. This is rediculous.
It has been only like 12 years since the rebate was put in place. It is just unfair, I may not live there anymore but my family and friends do and they use that bridge numerous times a day to go to work.

It's unheard of to have to pay for a bridge that conects two areas in the same borough. People in Rockaway already have to pay a toll every time they leave the peninsula to head towards Brooklyn. That should be more than enough. We shouldn't also have to pay to travel within our own borough.

With Traffic the way it is in the Rockaways, the rebate program helps people get to where they need to go quicker and helps many local merchants. Traffic and shops will suffer if the rebate program is taken out, hurting Rockways economy.

My family is against this excessive toll. This toll only penalizes the Rockaway/Broad Channel residents as we shop, visit a neighbor, go to work, school or church.

Thank you Dan Tubridy and gang for leading the fight to keep the resident rebate in place.

Pls. dont put more hardship on the resident of Rockaway. We just aren't able to cope up with the current economic crisis. Adjusting the city/state budget by raising taxes/tolls is not the correct approach. The resident of Rockaway will be further hard pressed and lose their confidence in the Govt. thank U.

This is our "Only access Bridge" to our sustinence and we just can't afford to add toll to the residents of Rockaway. First of all, our commute is pretty long to get to anywhere and this is the only Blessing we have and therefore please do not deprive us of this Benefit and we just cant afford. As a Low income family, everything is going up except salary and we find it so hard to make both ends meet and to hear of this additional expense, is literaly going to choke us to a slow death.
Therefore I strongly Protest this Move to charge the rockaway Residents with CBB Toll.

How can the city expect the people of Broad Channel to pay a toll to drive their children to school or to even buy food? The closest major grocery store is across the bridge. It would be wrong to make the people of Broad Channel pay a toll to have access to basic needs. I guess the next step would be for the MTA to take away bus and train passes from students trying to get to school. It would be wrong to invoke this toll on the people of Broad Channel. I do not personally live in Broad Channel and I am happy to pay the toll to go to the beach in Rockaway but for the people who live there the city needs to make the basic needs of life available to the residents. To cut off schooling and food without paying a toll is just wrong.

It's wrong to charge Broad Channel/Rockaway residents to travel to and from the island/peninsula. Broad Channel residents do much of their daily business on the Rockaway peninsula and Rockaway residents would have to pay just to leave the peninsula over any of the three bridges (Crossbay Bridge, Marine Park bridge, and the bridge into Atlantic Beach, LI). Unfortunately, the Rockaway peninsula is not self-sustaining and the residents should have at least one free outlet to a nearby neighborhood. The city/state of New York rapes its citizens enough with taxes...This is just another way to keep us down.

As a resident of Roxbury, the only way to get out is thru the 2 bridges. We need one of the bridges at no cost. It's been free since 1997.
