Guestbook Entries for JUNE 2004

Dear concerned citizen(you don't deserve capital letters): I for one thank you for your idiotic commentary on the Mardi Gras and the candidate who is "not from Broad Channel". I guess you didn't intend to wake up the town and generate such massive feedback against your position. Even those "not from Broad Channel" want to be one of us and I, for one, welcome Fred Grey into the honorary Channelite category. And I don't even know who he is!I sure hope your comments weren't prompted by "politics" because you may be supporting another candidate. Unless you want to tell us all who you are, keep your negativity to yourself. Let's all support the Mardi Gras in any way we can! And stop creating residency rules.

To The Concerned Resident of BC: I agree with everyone else who has responded to your post regarding underage drinking, and to a certain extent yes it's a problem in this town. But on a counterpoint, or several for that matter, technically there are minors on the Mardi Gras committees, but they seem as Alison, and Marty put it, to be the only ones busting their humps for a better community, and not to mention aren't drinking during any of these events. You obviously want to remain anonymous and that may be either a good thing or a bad thing, "but where are you?" during all this planning and fundraising. No one is looking to pick a fight a with you, if you've got something to say, be a man and say it, if you don’t like something or want to change it, step up and do so. And even if you aren't too sure what to do, you should swing by the Firehouse and see if you can lend a hand to Fred Grey's committee. He is one of the hardest working firefighters this town has ever seen, a great guy who would do anything for anyone no matter what the circumstance. Some of us, including myself, consider him a brother, and a great friend. Not to mention the job the committee is doing has been outstanding, so in the future I personally ask you to either step up and help or keep your comments to yourself. Broad Channel needs our firehouse, our firefighters and Mardi Gras.

Once again we have thousands of plants/flowers donated to our community with a grant from Joe Addabbo. Last year the planting was very successful. This year with late notice and BAD WEATHER it seems a lot of plants have not been planted. The plants are out there on the mall. We have a big parade in town Friday June 11th and the mall and town would look great if they were planted. Help make the town look great, get up to the mall pick a tree pit and plant those flower before they become useless.

It's great to hear that the Mardi Gras will be back in 2004. Those who voulenteer their time all year (BCVFD/BCAC) and give BC an awesome end of summer party should be appreciated.
P.S. to cousin Dave (Webmeister Extrodonaire)
This site just keeps getting better! Nice job creating a virtual "Broad Channel" on the web.

I just wanted to say something to the community, this year my son is running in the Madri Gras for Babyface and my wife had put collection cans in the stores for donations that will benifit the BCVFD and help them build the new fire house that they so desperately need. This weekend we had found out that one of the cans was stolen out of O'Mac deli by a non-resident. Please keep your eyes open when you are at the store to keep this from happening again. As you all know we do get alot of beach traffic funneling through our neighborhood and i will be hard trying to keep an eye out, but please I just ask that you please keep an eye out. This will only benifit the community.
Thank you

This site keeps getting better and better. Keep up the good work. Good luck to all Mardi Gras candidates. Glad the celebration is back this year. Support the BCVFD. It's members helped me out more than once. They're there for us. We should be there for them.

Here is another message for our "concerned citizen", first of all how can you call yourself a concerned citizen and then bash people for what they are doing for this town! That is not concern, that is ignorance!! Problem is that not enough people get involved in the Mardi Gras. It seems as if it's constantly the same people running in the Mardi Gras, so for Fred to step up and take on the responsibilty and do something productive, he should not take heat from someone to scared to even defend their own comments!!! As far as the supposed under age people on his commitee, it's great that the next generation is stepping it up a notch and getting involved. They should all be commended and proud of what they are doing. It's really irrelevant where Fred is from, you are obviously from the town and doing nothing but criticizing others for the good that they do. You should either step up or shut up!! Good luck to ALL the commitees, keep up the good work!!

I am the daughter of Charles Frank Jr (brother), neice of Madeline Frank (sister) and grandaughter of Charles Frank (Uncle Charlie) Does anyone remember them in Broad Channel? My family moved upstate in 1966, but we returned to visit. Does anyone know who owns the house at 111 E 8th Road? My Dad still asks. My Dad (brother) continues to do well and lives in Margate Florida with my brother Steven. He would love to hear from people from Broad Channel especially the Corbett family (Carol)

CITY COUNCILMAN JOE ADDABBO, WHAT'S THE DELAY???Our 17th rd. children's park was ripped apart quite awhile ago and still remains undone. Our new baseball fields at the Day Camp have been delayed for our 4 years. Unfortunately we now have to look at a dirt pile where a beautiful park use to be next to our library. After attending our local civic meeting last night, it appears the contractor was in default of his contract with the city and now the city must put the job out for rebid. That means probably another year before we see any work being done. It is such a shame that we get one park finished on 9th road only to have the 17th rd. park destroyed by the city. The tables and benches were a nice place for people to have some lunch and read a good book from the library now there is once again no sits for anyone to enjoy a nice summer day. Joe, please try to expedite this park.Anyone who wishes to follow the work being done can contact our Citycouncilman at (718)318-6411 or (718)738-1111 and find out when this park will be finished.

Hello to all, I am looking for information about my grand uncle. I don't believe he lived in Broad Channel, although he may have, but he was one of the organizers of the Broad Channel Boat Club (or one of the boat clubs there) His name was John Henry Ellingsgard. The club would have been started sometime in the 40's or early 50's. Grand Yncle John passed away in 1954. Every time in the past that I've tried to find or contact this boat club, it was the wrong season, or they were closed. Does anybody still there have any information, history, old pictures, anything???

Hi! As a new Broad Channel resident (moved in May 4, 2004) I googled "Broad Channel, New York" and found this site amoung others. This site plus the BCAC site is the best and kept it as a favorite. Also have the BroadChannelSite on my Instant Messenger! I have been having the best time just hanging out on my deck. Broad Channel is the best place in the world with the best views and so close to the city.
