Just read the sad message from John Blake about the fundraiser can being stolen from O'Macs -- want to suggest that people even watch those not passing through to go to the beach -- a few years back the donation can for the Christmas tree lighting was stolen by someone living right in our own town! Fortunately, the person happened to be on the store surveilance camera!

My family and I came down to visit Broad Channel on Father's Day. I thought it nice for my kids to play in a park named after their grandfather, who they never knew.
Afterwards we walked through town, I babbling about this house or that house and who used to live there and some who still did. My wife and children tolerated my remembrances. When we arrived on the corner of E 20th and the Blvd. A child’s voice rang out from a window, “Look Mommy, Foreigners.” It took the rest of the walk on the West side of the Blvd. down to 9th Road, to explain and answer all my children’s questions about why we were called foreigners. Some things never change, I quess.

When the tide came up in the street the other night those of us with low sidewalks felt the affects of the ridiculous paving job that was recently done on certain blocks in the channel.
Instead of the water spreading out over the entire block - it was all in the unpaved portion of the road as well as the sidewalks and front yards - great foresite on someone's part.
Any clue why some blocks were done and not others??
Doesn't make sense - Something is definitely not right here.
Don't know about other blocks, but mine filed many complaints by calling 311.

Thanks for the memories. It's been 30 yrs. since I hung out. I was able to find a few old friends.
I've been in San Diego CA since my family moved here in 1974. I'll always be a New Yorker at heart, and the Channel has special memories I'll always cherish.

Congrats to the BCAC Jamaica Bay Little League 12 yr old Travel Tournament team for making it to the finals in district #27 tournament. With one more win Thursday nite against the very tuff RGMVM team the Boys will make history as the first team from JBLL to capture the distinguished district Chanpionship Flag. The boys have made it to the finals in the winners bracket and with a win will move on to the sectional tournament. The boys are coached by two of BCAC young men Joe Tragler and Sklyer Ward, great job guys and best of luck.!!!!!

I spent the weekend with my brother Marty and we sat on the beach and laughed and laughed as we reminisced about growing up in Broad Channel. This website is terrific.

I heard about the site from Jean Bohne Ryan. I have read all the forum messages and found them great fun! I visited the historical society (loved the calendars)last week, brought some pictures. Took a ride around BC and was amazed at the changes. I expect to keep closer ties to BC in the future.

Hello
On last Wednesday I had a visit from the Dept. Of Sanation. It appears that one of my Channelite foes called them up to complain that I had to much garbage out in front of my house, YES TO MUCH GARBAGE. Since the battle over the BCAC parking lot and field issue I have had many visits to my home from city agencies due to people calling up and making bogus complaints, I even had to deal with my job as these same individuals made bogus complaints to the NYPD hoping to get me jammed up, "didn't work I retired last year" And By the way none of them ever had any merit so they were lauged off by the agency involved. In a way I can somewhat understand their frustration with me since I was involved in the town all my years living here and I was on the winning end of the BCAC issue and of course the UCO election a few years back when the previous board was defeated and overthrown by over 400 votes.I actually feel bad for people when they show how unhappy they are with their lives when they go as low as to call up about " To Much Garbage" which by the way was taken the next day by the Sanation. So before I move to Florida I want to wish all the phone callers a good life, but remember " If ya want to throw stones ya better not live in a glass house"

I grew up in Far Rockaway, but my cousins the "Thompsons" lived in Broad Channel, as did my mother as a child. In my high school years (1960-1964) I attended Far Rockaway High and I often hanged out in Broad Channel with many of my high school friends...Broad Channel will always have a soft spot in my heart as well as the old beautiful Far Rockaway will.

Concerning the article on the front page - maybe i just don't get it, but why are people reporting each other for home improvements? aren't we supposed to live together as a community and help each other instead of ratting each other out like children? That’s how broad channel used to be. it really is a shame that people have nothing better to do than to make other people's lives more difficult. isn't life hard enough without having to be afraid of your own neighbors? all of this petty nonsense over a football field that should have been ours to begin with .... pretty sad. it's time to get over it and move on.

It's been 17 years since I've been back. Miss it all too much. Still dream about the streets and houses, the flooding during heavy rain, fourth of July's, the many friends and family that lived and still live there to this day.
those were good times.
