Hi, I am in the process of renovating a house on a canal so that I can move in within the month or so. I am excited to be a part of a waterfront community, and to start living by the tides. Was wondering if the flowers were planted on the mall this year. If not go to the Civic Meeting and see if Councilman Joe Addabbo will alocate some funds for the flowers, it makes the town look great don't ya think????

ST. Virgilius is currently offering a $1,000.00 per year scholarship for 5 years to ALL new families registering for the 2005-2006 school year. There is a total of 25 scholarships being offered. They are available on a first come, first served basis. You may contact the school at 634-6237 to register.

The Broad Channel Beautification Day/Mall Spruce up is Saturday, May 21,2005. The Broad Channel Civic Association only had about 15 people at the most recent meeting. Unfortunately, the beautification committe only has one or two people left on it and they are busy trying to maintain the subway garden. The Civic is in desperate need of some new volunteers to help organize this day. Can anyone volunteer to get flyers made up and put out around town that May 21 is Mall clean-up. Whether we have flowers or not we need people to clean-up the tree pits. We could also use someone to contact the 100th precinct to put out some cones along the mall for the children's safety. If anyone can help you can e-mail me or contact the civic president. Lets keep Broad Channel looking BEAUTIFUL!!!!! Marty, you'll be missed on this day since you spent hours delivering flowers around town!!!

FYI-Talked to Mrs. Phelan today and there are only 14 scholarships left for new families wishing to register for the 2005-2006 school year. If you are thinking of joining us, I would'nt wait too long and miss out on this great scholarship program. We will have an open house tomorrow; Friday, May 20,2005, from 9:30 to 11:30 and 1:00 to 2:00, and 6:00 to 8:00. Come down and take a look for yourself at what a great school this is!

The Mall looks WONDERFUL!!! Thanks to those who answered my posting for help they were Cindi Ciappetta, Mary Cani,Jenny Murray. Thanks for making the flyers and delivering them around town. Thanks to Erica & Robbie Lesser who really pitched in and delievered flyers & with the help of Barbara Toborg delivered all the flowers to each tree pit. Thanks to Christina Costa & John Sparto for getting the flowers ordered. Thanks to the Broad Channel Civic and City Councilman Joe Addabbo for purchasing the flowers. A special thank-you to all our neighbors who came and cleaned and planted the flowers. It was nice to see a lot of new home owners out on the mall planting. Thanks for everyone's help and for e-mailing me that you would be able to pitch in!!!

I now live in San Francisco. My parents had a house on the water at the end of West 10th Road where I spent every summer until college. Now that I have my own kids, (two rambunctious seven year olds) that I have to arrange playdates and summer day camps for, I can't help but miss those carefree summer days of my youth where we were able to play outside, unsupervised, all day long with children on our block. My kids have no concept of a world where going swimming (which we did every single day from the end of June to Labor Day!) meant just jumping off our back porch or crossing the street to use the wonderfully enclosed Kiddie Pool at the end of West 10th road. My mother (who now lives in California close to Sacramento) sold her house last year, so now my only link to that past is this website.

At the Civic Meeting last night we were told that if you received a ticket this week for parking on the mall to write not guilty on the ticket and in remarks state that it was due to high tide. Also to make a copy of it and send it to Councilman Addabbo's office attention Sandy and he was going to look into it. The cop said it should not happen again since the precinet has notified the DOT.
