WELL I WOULDNT BE SENDING MY KIDS TO ST. ROSE ANY TIME SOON.
6/3/05 12:26:27 PM - ip address:216.128.73.88
Well, why don't you want to send your kids to St. Rose?
6/4/05 6:01:21 PM - ip address:151.202.58.163
It's not like I have a problem with S.V.S. I think it is a good school and i am glad it is staying open, but what do you have against St. Rose. Is there somthing wrong with it?
6/4/05 6:04:38 PM - ip address:151.202.58.163
There is nothing wrong with St. Rose. The class sizes are just larger and I do not believe there curriculm is Level 4. The reason I chose ST. V. over St. Rose is that St. Rose was not challenging enough academically and my son would day dream. St. V. is better suited for his needs because, I feel the curriculm is a little more advanced and it keeps him on his toes.

The Broad Channel Athletic Club will not be hosting the Mardi Gras this year. We were asked to allow the Broad Channel Vollies to have it this year for their 100th Anniversay. The members of the club voted to allow the BCVFD to have it. Therefore, the BCAC has not had a Mardi Gras in Three (3) years. We are surviving on registration money which barely covers all the expenses of running a multisports organization. Anyone that works for a company that donates to a chartiable organiztion and whiches to donate to a youth club can contact me at my e-mail below. Keep the youth on the fields!!! Thank you

Our Civic Association is amazing, the Civic President,John Spartaro, fights Charlie Howard on a parking lot for doctors.....but yet lets a cel-tower be installed across from his house on the corner of East 9th road. The Civic should really get their priorities straight. A group of concerned residents let the Civic know about this last year. They attended a number of Civic meetings. Unfortunately they didn't get much help from our civic. The Civic certainly dropped the ball on this one. The committee felt they did all they could do. Radiation.....Eyesore......Lower property values in the area .........One step forward....two steps back!

Check out in the Forums section, News & Announcements, Don Minor posted some information regarding the Cell Tower. Maybe it isn't too late to stop this!
6/7/05 10:51:44 AM - ip address:205.188.116.139
Which cell phone companay owns this tower? Maybe we could start a boycott??!!
6/7/05 2:11:16 PM - ip address:152.163.100.134
On June 6th a crane was raising the 35' cell tower, they had a crane permit but no work permit displayed, no sign about construction and name/numbers. DOT responded to a call and checked crane permit. Buildings Dept. checked form and no work permit displayed and crane over electric wire was danger. they stopped work but will be back with a bigger crane.
Do we want a 35' transmitting base tower? If cell phones affect alpha/delta waves in kids brains for an hour after use at 1-2 watts power, what will a large radio tower do to kids playing in park, will pacemakers be affected, will you glow after walking bye. For landmark directions it will be great- "just past the big ugly tower in the center of town between the schools and next to the kiddy park". Suggest new name for the town that did not care what and how the tower affected them, they had other things on their plate ............

Everyone concerned about the Cel-Tower should attend the next Broad Channel Civic Meeting, which is Thursday, June 23 in the VFW Hall on Shad Creek Road at 8:00pm.. They do have a legal defense fund, if a lawsuit is the only way to stop this ugly cel-tower...At this point it may at least stop the installation and give the town more time to work something else out with the cel-company... Although I'm sure a lease has already been signed between the landlord and the cel company especially since this has been in the works for over a year. When calling your local representatives ask them if they will be attending this very important Civic Meeting concerns!!!

O.K. I am glad you have a valad reason (regarding the St. V. vs St. Rose entries above). But might I add that the work there is not easy, but actually verry challenging. I have worked verry hard to get where I am and the teachers there will make sure you do not day dream. I am in class right now so I have to get back to doing my work. Oh, and on another subject, might I ask how old your son is?

I enjoyed marching side-by-side with my son Rocco at the recent Memorial Day Parade. The parade in Broad Channel was also organized very well. The neighborhood people showed much respect and it was a pleasure to be marching with my fellow Post 1404 members.

I did post this in the forum section but for those of you that don't check that. If you currently pay for a PO Box either with an organization or individually until a decision is made about a post office in BC all mail will be left at 92nd Street unless other arrangements have been made with the PO! The BCVFD had quite a bit piling up over there, in addition we did have mail that belonged to other organizations so I would definitely get over and check it out ASAP!

wow summer in the Channel, there`s nothing like it.Beach parties on the sandbar, swimming at the sluice, the diving board.Swimming under the sluice, lmao.forts at horseshoe beach.Handball at the school yard.Hanging out on O`sullivans corner.9th road beach.boat races.i could go on and on.You know I welcome all the new people that moved to the channel in the last few years, well almost all of them I hear there are a few that don`t care about the history we have there or creating a new history only in restructuing the place to fit their desires.Too bad, they will never enjoy "the channel"just for what it is,what it was and what it could be.Oh and I just saw Ginny Balogh on here wow a blast from the past.this site never ceases to amaze me,thanks.

Is this the same Charlie Stewart that spoke at the BCAC Hall Of Fame and had us all laughing for hours about all your football memories. We're still creating memories for the next generation. I meet many of the new people coming into our town and some of the new people make me realize more and more what we have here. I love working with them and I love talking about our island and its history. If you ever have time the historical society has a number of albums with photos and articles all about Broad Channel.
