Great site. Its wonderful to read some positive things about BC. I am so sick and tired of people moving away and then bad-mouthing the place. Its a great place to live otherwise all of us die-hards would not still be here.

It was great to learn, for the first time, that the old day camp property is now a park for the enjoyment of Broad Channel residents. I grew up in the Channel in the 50's-70's, and it was always very clear that we were not welcome at that camp (which made sneaking in for a swim in the pool all the more fun).

Hi everyone, nice to see the website,my dad was a resident most of his life, my grandfather lived there all of his life, everone knew my grandfather as uncle charlie and my dad as brother.(a long time ago)
would like to hear from anyone who remembers charles frank Sr(uncle charlie) or Charles Frank Jr (brother) lived on 111 e 8th road.

Congratulations to the BCAC 13-14yr. old boys basketall team for making it into the championship game tonight. Their record was 13 wins 2 loses. Their coach was Jack Palmese, who has done a great job with our boys! It was an awesome game tonight against OLPH. The game went into the final seconds when the BCAC scored & tied the game for overtime!The crowd was going crazy. Both teams played a great game with OLPH winning in overtime. The final score was 35-32!! GREAT GAME !!!

Way to go BCAC boys. No matter what sport, if you put a bunch of BC boys or girls together, we'll probably see ya in the play-offs. Speaking of which, we got a couple of nail biters going on in the CHSHL (Catholic High School Hockey League). And Yes, its ice hockey. Harrison Knee is between the pipes for Malloy. They play Kellenberg in game three tonight. William Gill IV plays wing for Holy Cross. They play tomorrow night VS St. Peters. Also game three. The winners of these two games meet in a championship series this weekend.

Well maybe I jinxed the whole darn thing. Both Holy Cross and Malloy were eliminated last night in two good games. Harrison and Willy (both Sophmores chosen to play for the Varsity teams) deserve congratulations. They played tough and never gave up. St. Petes beat Holy Cross 4-3, and Kellenberg beat Malloy 4-2.

As most people have written this is a great site. I haven't been back to BC in quite a few years and I do miss it. I was in the St Virgilius class of '76, then we moved to Florida back in 78. We live down on 16th road. I've been in the Navy now for over 21 years and been away from home for most of them. Anyone from the old days that wants to drop me a line it sure would be nice to hear from you. Have a good one.

Just took a shot at typing in Broad Channel NY and WOW! I found it!
Haven't been in the Channel for 30 yrs! I can't imagine a Bed & Breakfast there!
I moved away when I was about 8 in the late 50's. My grandmother lived on Bert Rd in a house on stilts. I used to catch killies with her milk bottles and a piece of bread inside! I went to St. Virgilius till 2nd or 3rd grade but still remember getting hit on the nuckles with Sr. Michael Marie's ruler! We lived on 13th Rd.
If anyone out there remembers the families of Billy Hemminger, Grube, John Roman, Brust, Arigali, Schroeder, Frank Monahan, Mundy please let me know.
I remember Weiss's hotdogs, Nunley's carousel, Suntoy chinese place, O'Sullivans drug store and Danny the crossing guard cop. I remember buying a pickle out of a barrel at Mickey-o's, Coldbergs hardware store, driving in a car on frozen Jamaica Bay and my brothers going to a place called "Grassy Point" and Monahan's. I'm doing a family tree search, so let me know if Hildebrand's Funeral Home is still around.
I have terrific memories of Broad Channel, what a place to grow up, I wish we didn't move away!

Hey y'all , just enjoyed seein alot of the gang here in the Key's. Anyone whom didn't attend missed out, however ther's next St. Pattys day. The annual B.C. reunion is growin in leaps and bounds each year. Great job on the site. Cheer up, summer is just around the corner for you all.

Hi All, My son John O'Leary put me on to this site just today. We lived in the Channel for six years 72 to78 in back of old Weiss's. My husband Jack is a retired city firefighter. Love to hear from someone, my children are John, Elizabeth & Bernadette O'Leary who went to St. Virgilius.

Another great BC St. Patrick's day reunion in the Keys is now history. It was wonderful to see so many of you and sorry we missed a few too and to the those of you who didn't make it, try harder next year. You don't know what you are missing. However, I do admit that partying for 3 straight days is not as easy as it use to be, but we all gave it our best and lived to tell about it! Looking forward to 2004, same time, same place.

We had over 80 attendees at the Broad Channel St. Patrick's Day Reunion at Snappers in Key Largo. What a great day it was!!! Perfect Florida Keys weather surrounded by good friends, both current and former residents of BC. A lot of us getting re-acquainted for the first time in many years. Thanks George Chamberlain for making up those great t-shirts. Let's get them again for next year and see if David can offer them on the website. Speaking of David, webmaster of this site, he did a great job of getting the news out for this event. Everyone was asking for him and next year I'll drag him out of Key West to OUR party at Snappers. I spent a good part of the day taking pictures and gathering names for the site. Check back in a few days to see the pictures. We also got some pictures via email, so if you have them send them to admin@BroadChannelNY.com and Dave will put them up. Looking forward to next year, and wishing I was still there.

Next year there will be one more at the Key Largo Pattys Day reunion. The Florida Keys are great but I still have that Broad Channel sand in my shoes.
